New work fell by 0.7%, the largest contributory fall while there were also decreases in infrastructure and private commercial work of 4.3% and 1.5% respectively.
Year-on-year, total output in the construction industry has dropped 1.1% since November 2014.
New housing saw an 0.8% monthly increase, while private sector new housing saw a 0.9% increase.
Andrew Bridges, managing director of Stirling Ackroyd, said: “Housing is surfacing as the deepest and most troubling challenge for the whole UK – our greatest cities need to grow, and a whole generation need somewhere to live.
“Planning is a necessary evil – but it’s slowing down the process. Developers are keen to develop but between Q2 and Q3 2015, planning approvals for new homes in London fell by nearly a third (29%) – totalling just 5,740 approvals. This simply isn’t enough.”
