Commercial First Mortgages appoints in-house legal counsel

Rushbrook joins Commercial First from the City law firm Macfarlanes, where he worked on a wide range of blue chip client business. Previously the 34-year-old had been employed by Linklaters, one of the leading law firms in Europe.

“The appointment of Daniel is a major milestone for Commercial First,” commented managing director Philip George. “We are embarking on our first securitisation and we have got major changes taking place within the wider mortgage industry, which will have a major impact on all lenders.

“We need a heavyweight in-house legal expert to lead us through these complicated processes. In Daniel, we have found the right man for the job. We welcome him aboard at a very exciting time

for everyone connected with the business and are very confident that he will flourish in his new role.”

Daniel Rushbrook said: “This is a great company to be associated with and I am relishing the challenge of working with people of the calibre of Philip and co-founders David Johnson and Martin Finegold. All three are highly regarded in the City and I will be doing my very best in the coming months to enhance

their reputations.

“This year is going to be a challenging one for Commercial First. We have our very first securitisation to complete and we have to get the business in shape for the on-set of statutory regulation. Many people think that the new regulatory regime of the Financial Services Authority only impacts on residential lenders.

They’re wrong. It has an impact on commercial lending as well, and that means the onus is on me to ensure our systems, procedures and products comply fully with the requirements of the FSA.”
