CML appoints funding expert Rob Thomas

Rob brings the total number of CML policy advisers to six, and the CML now has a total staff of 36.

Rob has most recently been the project manager for the European Mortgage Finance Agency Project, developing a proposal for a pan-European mortgage funding institution. Prior to this, he was a housing market and mortgage bank analyst at UBS Warburg, following five years at the Bank of England as an economist. Rob has a BSc and a Masters degree in economics from the University of Southampton.

Commenting on his appointment, Rob said: "I'm delighted to be joining the CML to cover funding issues. With mortgage securitisation and the development of a UK covered bond market adding to traditional retail and wholesale funding sources, funding is a rapidly evolving field. The implementation of Basel II is likely to ensure that this evolution continues apace. Choice of funding has an impact on mortgage product design and I hope to be able to help the CML pro-actively identify and address issues that derive from mortgage funding developments."
