Caution urged over offshore lead generators

Mortgage Introducer was recently solicited via e-mail by India-based Touchnow BPO Services to see if it was looking for mortgage leads. The firm claimed that having seen www.mortgageintroducer.com it had decided the magazine was a mortgage firm and would like to do business with it.

The firm claims to achieve 40 per cent savings over current UK market rates on mortgage, remortgage, buy-to-let and secured loans leads. Peter Robinson, business development manager for BPO services, said all leads were accompanied by a complete voice recording of the conversation between the prospect and the lead generation officer.

“We are fully aware of the regulation which is about to be implemented in the UK and believe we have all the necessary checks and balances in place. We also provide insurance and mortgage leads for companies in the USA,” he said.

However Bill Warren, director of The Complete Network, commented: “We would never use of shore lead generation services because you can’t really monitor how the leads are acquired. This is not saying that an international company may not provide perfectly adequate leads.”

Chris Cummings, director of AMI, commented: “While we are not condemning offshore call centres we would urge firms to take all precautions necessary to ensure compliance with statutory regulation. If in doubt they should consult with the FSA.”
