Broker verification disk causes further confusion

A recent Mortgage Introducer report highlighted lenders’ disk worries. The lenders concerned have now received the disk but there is still confusion over how up to date the disk’s information is.

Richard Griffiths, managing director of Network Data, said: “It appears the disk we have been sent is two months out of date. There are only 35 of our firms authorised on the disk but we estimate that as many as 200 were fully authorised at the time of release.

“Plus there were another 250 in the pipeline at the time of release. I have been told that a further disk is to be released on 2 November.”

Robin Gordon Walker, FSA spokesman, said: “We have sent out somewhere in the region of 50 to 60 disks on a subscription basis. The information on the disks is updated up until midnight the day before it got sent out. The next disk is due to be sent out later in the month but no date has been set.”

Jennifer Holloway, head of media relations at the Skipton Building Society, said that while the Skipton had received the disk it was ‘somewhat superfluous’.

She commented: “I fail to believe that the information on the disk is a true reflection of the numbers that have been granted full authorisation.”

Holloway went on to say that Skipton had also received a further unofficial disk from the FSA showing firms predicted to be authorised. “I’m confused, I just can’t see the point in such a thing,” she said.

Gordon-Walker responded: “I have no idea about a predictability disk.”
