Beware the data protection scam

A number of companies are targeting brokers and advisers with a final notice to pay £95 to register with the Data Protection or face conviction or a fine of up to £5,000.

Mortgage Watchdog has been targeted by of one of these companies calling themselves Data Protection Agency Services of:

Sherbourne House

80 Sherbourne House

Blackpool

FY1 2PE

Tel. 01253 753 843

The Data Protection knows this rogue company and Mortgage Watchdog has it on good authority that Trading Standards are aware of a number of companies like DPAS.

DPAS and other rogue companies set up an account by which they can draw any undue fees paid to the company by unsuspecting companies. DPAS have set up an account called National Registration Fee.

The notification form looks official with a logo of the scales of justice on the front page with a heading in bold capitals FINAL NOTICE.

Mortgage Watchdog has called the telephone number but it is either engaged or no one answers the call.

If you receive one of these letters file it in either the circular file or the shredder. You have been warned so be on your guard as some administration staff are simply too busy, some panic and pay the £95 fee.
