Bank of England lending statistics for March 2005

Within the total, growth in net lending secured on dwellings (£7.0 billion) was slightly lower than the increase in February and the previous six month average. The twelve-month growth rate fell to 11.7% from 12.1% in February. The value of all loans approved was slightly higher than in February (Table B). The number of loans approved for house purchase was higher, but the number of loans approved for remortgaging and for other purposes were lower than in February.

Growth in consumer credit (£1.9 billion) was stronger than in February (Table A). Within this, net other loans were stronger than in February and the previous six month average, whereas net credit card lending was in line with February’s outturn and the previous six month average.
