AMI launches mortgage market consultation

AMI is calling on the intermediary community to respond to the accompanying questionnaire and submit their proposals for the regulation of the mortgage market.

In addition, AMI has provided a summary paper outlining some of the key issues facing the mortgage market. Responses received will form part of a wider paper that AMI will submit to FSA prior to the release of its proposals for the mortgage market in September.

Robert Sinclair, Director of AMI, said: "FSA is already forming an internal view of the market and the regulatory structure necessary to manage it. We only have a short window of opportunity to fully engage.

"It is time for the industry to come together. We have an ideal opportunity to develop solutions and provide input to FSA that provides consumers, advisers and lenders with a market that works equally well for all parties.

"We would encourage all our members, and any other interested parties, to contribute to this key debate. This is a real opportunity for members to shape the future of their industry."

Jane Lowe, Director of Markets at Investment Management Association (IMA), commented: "IMA welcomes the opportunity to comment on the ABI's Money Market Sector Review. We believe that new sector definitions should be created with a long-term view in that future market environments as well as current market conditions are taken into account."

The closing date for all responses is 8 June. Any firm wishing to provide views in addition to those submitted as part of the formal questionnaire can submit them at [email protected]
