Affordable housing initiatives to be discussed in inaugural event

A free event featuring a lender village of exhibitors with various speakers covering shared ownership and other affordable housing initiatives will be held next week.

The inaugural New Build and Affordable Housing Event, hosted by Just Mortgages New Build Division, will take place on March 31 at Whittlebury Hotel, Northampton.

Housing associations, property developers, local authorities and those interested in affordable housing, particularly first-time buyers, are invited to attend, though prior registration is required.

Andy Nelson and Dave Anstice-Pim, from Homes England, will present on the progress of the government’s upcoming First Homes scheme. This is where new build homes are offered to first-time buyers with a discount of at least 30% off the market value.

There are a limited number of lenders who specialise in mortgages designed for affordable housing initiatives such as shared ownership. Some of these lenders will appear on two panel sessions during the day.

The morning session features Nationwide, Halifax, Barclays, and Santander. In the afternoon, delegates will hear from Kent Reliance, Pepper Money and Leeds Building Society.

There will also be presentations from representatives of housing associations discussing shared ownership, Mortgage Brain’s view of the customer journey, and Skipton Building Society on the first-time buyer journey.

“This gathering of housing and lending experts is a fantastic way for all interested parties to see the progress that is being made to help people on to the property ladder. Whether that is through the growth of shared ownership or new schemes such as First Homes, we all have a part to play in helping to provide good quality, affordable housing,” Paul Wilson, business development director at Just Mortgages New Build Division, said.

“As house prices carry on rising, affordable housing continues to be an important issue,” added John Doughty, financial services director at Just Mortgages New Build Division. “With only a year left of the Help to Buy scheme, we are seeing growth in alternative options such as shared ownership. We are really looking forward to hosting this event, which is a first for us, and we hope to make it an annual occurrence.”
