A weighty remark?

Alliance & Leicester (A&L) has sent several e-mail circulars to brokers recently advising them to use fax rather than rely on our beleaguered postal service, so you may think it not too unreasonable for brokers to request mortgage offers to be issued in the same fashion.

Well, I was more than a little surprised when my request from A&L Belfast Mortgage Centre for a faxed copy of a mortgage offer, which hadn’t arrived in the post, was declined because it was 43 pages in length. In these days when we are all supposed to be more eco-friendly, it does rather beg the question why any mortgage provider would need to produce such a lengthy document when the norm would be for around a dozen pages. Perhaps the reason it hadn’t arrived in the post may have been due to it not fitting through my letter box or, possibly, because some poor postman has collapsed under its sheer weight. Has any reader of Mortgage Introducer ever received an even lengthier mortgage document?
