WeBuyAnyHome: Living near a supermarket impacts property prices

Homeowners living by an Asda supermarket are most likely to live in areas with the highest house prices, WeBuyAnyHome’s Supermarket Index tool has found.

Elmbridge, Mole Valley, Epsom and Ewell, and Windsor and Maidenhead, which feature Asda stores, are home to house prices between £467,500 and £575,000, the highest average in the UK.

Meanwhile, houses near a Tesco and Sainsbury’s are home to house prices amongst the lowest in the UK with prices in the region of £86,000 and £117,000.

A spokesperson from WeBuyAnyHome said: "Our findings have uncovered that within the UK, a pattern has shifted and supermarkets offering a lower average basket value now have growing presence with stores dominating areas with higher house prices.

“London continues to show patterns seen in previous years, with Waitrose continuing to have high density of supermarkets in locations where house prices are much higher than the London average."

Iceland has the highest density of stores per capita in areas where the average house price is between £100,000 to £200,000, lower than the national average of £257,858.

The average house price in London is £525,113.

Here Waitrose dominates areas where houses are valued above the average, whilst Morrisons stores are predominantly found in areas with below average house prices.
