Scottish homebuilders will work with Sturgeon

Every home built supports more than four jobs making home building fundamental to ensuring Scotland’s future success.

Scotland’s home building industry has reaffirmed the key role it has to play in meeting its First Minister’s economic priorities following confirmation of cabinet positions today.

Nicola Barclay, chief executive of trade body Homes for Scotland, said: “With our industry contributing billions to the economy each year and every home built supporting more than four jobs, home building is fundamental to ensuring Scotland’s future success.

“As housing impacts almost all policy areas, we look forward to working with the First Minister and her new team to help overcome the numerous challenges that affect the delivery of much needed new homes, particularly in relation to planning and the keenly awaited findings of the independent review panel which we understand will be published over the coming weeks.”

Yesterday Nicola Sturgeon was confirmed as first minister of Scotland following a minority win for the Scottish National Party on 5 May.

The SNP finished two seats short of an overall majority.

Sturgeon’s nomination for first minister is still to be confirmed by the Queen.
