Nimbyism still rife – Zoopla poll

The property website asked ‘Would you welcome more home-building in your area?’ and 56% said ‘No’ and 44% said ‘Yes’.

Despite the UK’s ongoing housing crisis more than half of the population wouldn’t welcome homebuilding in their area, a Zoopla Twitter pool as indicated.

The property website asked ‘Would you welcome more home-building in your area?’ and 56% said ‘No’ and 44% said ‘Yes’.

Craig Parkinson, mortgage and protection consultant/partner at Continuum, wrote on Twitter: “unless you live in a sleepy village - home building usually means that towns are improved/upgraded which is always welcome.”

There were 68 responses to the poll.

Kate Faulkner, property analyst, said: “Those who want more homebuilding are typically younger people who aren’t on the ladder yet or live further South towards London and the South East.

“People in the North are already seeing a lot of building and aren’t seeing double digit house price growth.”
