Belmont Green hires chief risk officer

Belmont Green Finance, whose Vida Homeloans brand is the specialist UK mortgage lender, has appointed Stephen Roughton-Smith to its executive team as chief risk officer.

Roughton-Smith (pictured) has over 30 years’ financial services experience in a variety of senior roles, initially qualifying as a chartered accountant. Most recently he was head of credit risk and interim chief risk officer at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

David Tweedy, chief executive officer, Belmont Green, said: “Risk taking is an inherent part of our business but must be managed and controlled to ensure good outcomes for customers, alignment with our strategic objectives, long term financial security and sustainability.

Previous risk roles include Roughton-Smith co-heading Moody’s EMEA structured finance business; being UK chief risk officer at ABN Amro and deputy chief risk officer and group credit director at Lloyds Banking Group.
