The cost of renting fell in October from the month before across every region of the UK, HomeLet’s Rental Index has found.

Average rents fell by the biggest percentage in the South West (-2.9%), followed by the South East (-2.4%) and then Greater London (-2.3%).

Annually rental growth has slowed to an average of 0.9% across the UK, with the highest growing areas being the East Midlands (3.6%), Northern Ireland (3.4%) and the West Midlands (2.9%).

The only area seeing rents fall annually was the South East (-0.8%).

The data is based on the cost of new tenancies agreed.
