Bridging lenders make The Sunday Times Rich List

The Blemain Group of companies, through Henry Moser, retained its spot on the list, moving up 28 places on last year to 246, with wealth ranked as £350m - £52m more than in 2012.

Parent group Jerrold Holdings specialises in secured lending to the residential and commercial property sectors.

The Manchester operation was co-founded in 1973 by Moser, 63.

The Sunday Times Rich List said: “A stake was sold for £113.5m in 2006 and Jerrold made another £45m in 2011-12. The Moser family has 70% of the business.”

Meanwhile Richard Ross, 70, chairman of Regentsmead, is a new entry at 774 this year with an estimated wealth of £101m.

The Sunday Times Rich List said: “Regentsmead, a London-based property and financial group. We see £80m in the 2011-12 accounts of Regentsmead and related companies.”

Ross, known for his philanthropy, is also ranked number 26 in The Sunday Times Giving List, donanting £3.2m to medical research in the past year.

The combined wealth of the top 200 people in The Sunday Times Rich List is £318.2bn, a more than eightfold rise on the £38bn for the combined wealth of the 200 people featured in the first list.

In 1989, the Queen topped the list with total wealth of £5,200m. This valuation included all the Crown Estates and the royal art collection. In later years, the Queen has been valued solely on her personal wealth and no longer topped the list after 1993.

This year the Queen ranked 268 with an estimated wealth of £320m, ahead of Ross but some way behind Moser.
