Excellence awardees share why industry recognition matters

Join the top new advisers at the 2024 NZ Mortgage Awards

Mortgage advisers are being urged to join 2024 New Adviser of the Year excellence awardees at the 2024 New Zealand Mortgage Awards on April 11.

Hosted by award-winning journalist Wilhelmina Shrimpton, the NZ Mortgage Awards promises to be a night to remember as the industry’s crème de la crème pack into the Auckland War Memorial Museum to celebrate excellence.

With hundreds of tickets sold already, only a limited supply is left for the cocktail event of the season.

However, bookings can still be made through the New Zealand Mortgage Awards website.

Why industry recognition matters

This year's event features a lineup of impressive finalists, including some rising stars pushing their case to be among the top young leaders in the industry.

Dimuthu Liyanage and Ashley Mitchell are among the talented individuals who have been nominated for the coveted First Mortgage Trust New Adviser of the Year award.

Both will be attending this year’s New Zealand Mortgage Awards and encourage future young guns to have a chat with them on the night.

Liyanage (pictured above left), financial adviser and director of Taprobane Finance, said he was thrilled to be not only in the running for the individual award but also Brokerage of the Year – 1-5 staff category.

“We owe this achievement to our amazing customers who have trusted us and made our success possible. We're committed to continuing to support you with all your lending and finance needs,” Liyanage said.  “At Taprobane Finance, we promise to keep growing and glowing to serve our clients better in everything we do.”

Liyanage called on all other New Zealand advisers to “come down and share the experience event”.

“Let’s get to know our industry’s best and enjoy a great night.”

Mitchell (pictured above right) shared this sentiment, saying he was excited to see the old friends and faces that he has worked with in the past.

“Myself, my pregnant partner and the team at Spring will be attending,” he said.

Mitchell said his advisory business predominately works with business owners who have the “hardest time securing debt”, especially in an uncertain market.

“So, it’s a nice bit of recognition for all of the Kiwi business owners that we’ve helped secure debt to help grow their wealth and business,” he said.

“What does it mean to me? We’re a young mortgage brokerage and I’m likely one of the younger candidates in my category, which goes to show you don’t need all the connections or decades of experience to be a solid financial adviser.”
