Proactive advice and personalised service separate New Zealand's top-rated mortgage advisers in 2026
NZ Adviser has named New Zealand's best mortgage advisers in its 2026 Top Brokers report — 40 rated 9.0 or above across six client-rated criteria from a pool of 71 nominees, with an overall average of 9.86 out of 10.
The 2026 survey ran between 2 and 27 March, drawing thousands of ratings from borrowers nationwide across six criteria: understanding of loan needs, fast and easy communication, value for money, personalised service, proactive loan guidance, and simplifying the lender search.
The 2026 Top Brokers — and what set them apart
Three years of client data point to one clear shift: borrowers increasingly want guidance that arrives before they ask for it. Proactive loan guidance posted the biggest three-year gain of any criterion, rising 2.09% to 9.60 and climbing from fifth place in 2024 to second in 2026. Understanding of loan needs held first position across all three survey years, reaching its highest point at 9.76.
Client switching is also rising — the share of borrowers who had not recently changed advisers fell from 65.49% in 2025 to 56.12% in 2026 — making proactive client management more important than ever.
