ANZ NZ is taking a stand against racism by being the first business to join the Human Rights Commission’s ‘Give Nothing To Racism’ campaign.

The campaign encourages people to address small acts of racism that people often let slide.

The bank said it would distribute 2,000 pins to branch staff to raise awareness about the campaign.

Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy said: "We’re asking Kiwis to acknowledge that racism and prejudice starts small and it needs their support to survive. Every little bit counts, because when it’s fed, it grows.

"We’re delighted to see ANZ be the first business come on board with the campaign and give nothing to racism. ANZ joins some of New Zealand’s most beloved celebrities, mayors from our largest cities, and numerous kiwis in making a stand about the kind of country and people we are."

ANZ managing director retail and business banking Antonia Watson said: “ANZ believes it’s an inherent strength to have a vibrant, diverse and inclusive workforce, which is why supporting this campaign was a no-brainer for us. It complements the strong diversity and inclusion policies we already have in place.

“The message that these small badges send is an important one. I know our people that choose to wear them will be proud to show they give nothing to racism.

“I’d encourage others to support the campaign. A New Zealand that gives nothing to racism and values different backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences benefits everyone.”

The campaign recently won top honours at the Asia-Pacific Communications Awards taking out the supreme award for the best communications campaign by an NGO, association or institution.
