About Platinum Mortgages

Platinum Mortgages New Zealand is an Auckland-based mortgage and financial advice business helping borrowers throughout New Zealand.

Established in 2020 and officially commencing online operations in January 2021, Platinum Mortgages provides tailored lending advice across home loans, first-home purchases, refinancing, investment property finance, debt consolidation and complex or specialist lending.

A significant part of the business involves helping clients understand their options when their circumstances don't necessarily fit neatly within traditional bank lending criteria. This can include self-employed borrowers, clients with complex income structures, credit challenges or those requiring non-bank and specialist lending solutions.

The approach is centred around understanding the client's complete financial position and long-term goals, identifying potential issues before an application is submitted and then finding an appropriate pathway forward.

History of Platinum Mortgages

Angela Downie established Platinum Mortgages New Zealand in 2020, with the business officially beginning its online operations in January 2021.

Since then, the business has grown primarily through client referrals, repeat clients and professional relationships, while remaining a boutique advice business focused on highly personalised service.

Platinum Mortgages and Angela have been fortunate to receive a number of industry awards and recognitions since 2022, including recognition through NZ Adviser's Rising Stars and Elite Women reports and multiple Excellence Awardee recognitions at the New Zealand Mortgage Awards.

Products and Services of Platinum Mortgages

Platinum Mortgages provides mortgage and lending advice throughout New Zealand, including:

  • first-home buyer lending
  • residential property purchases
  • refinancing and restructuring
  • investment property lending
  • debt consolidation
  • self-employed lending
  • non-bank and specialist lending
  • complex lending scenarios

Platinum Mortgages works across bank, non-bank and private lenders, depending on each client's circumstances, objectives and available lending options.

Culture at Platinum Mortgages

Platinum Mortgages is built around personal service, communication and long-term client relationships.

The goal is for clients to understand not only what lending option is available to them, but why it is being recommended and how it fits into their longer-term goals.

An initial "no" does not necessarily mean the end of the conversation. Sometimes it means understanding why an application doesn't currently fit, identifying what needs to change and creating a pathway towards a better outcome.

About Director & Financial Adviser Angela Downie

Angela Downie is the Director and Financial Adviser at Platinum Mortgages New Zealand, helping borrowers throughout New Zealand with home loans, refinancing, investment property finance and complex lending.

Angela works directly with clients to understand their goals and financial position, identify possible issues before an application is submitted, compare relevant bank and non-bank lending options, explain the reasons behind her recommendations and manage applications through lender assessment and approval conditions.

One area Angela particularly enjoys is helping clients with scenarios that require a little more investigation or lateral thinking, including specialist lending and situations where a borrower may previously have been told no.

The Future at Platinum Mortgages

The focus for Platinum Mortgages is to continue growing while retaining the personalised service and client relationships the business was built around.

As lending becomes increasingly complex, the role of an adviser is about much more than simply obtaining a home loan. It is about understanding the client's wider circumstances, identifying potential barriers early, providing clear advice and helping clients navigate their options with confidence.

Platinum Mortgages aims to continue building long-term relationships with clients and being there as their lending needs change throughout different stages of their lives.
