Nominations for Canadian Mortgage Awards close August 14

Six days left to nominate before Canada's top mortgage honour locks its shortlist

Nominations for Canadian Mortgage Awards close August 14

Nominations for the 2026 Canadian Mortgage Awards (CMA) close on August 14 at 11:59 p.m. ET. That leaves mortgage brokers, lenders, and industry professionals across Canada less than a week to put forward their best.

The CMA will return to Rebel Toronto on November 25 for what marks the programme's 20th year, with a broadened category roster, a new judging cohort drawn from across the mortgage, real estate, and technology sectors, and a structured five-stage process designed to ensure no deserving nominee is overlooked.

The programme, presented by Canadian Mortgage Professional (CMP), is widely regarded as the benchmark recognition event in the Canadian mortgage sector.

This year's edition spans 26 categories across broker, brokerage, lender, and industry segments. The window is open to anyone working in the Canadian mortgage industry, including brokers, brokerages, lenders, business development managers, underwriters, agents, and service providers.

There is no fee to enter, and self-nomination is permitted alongside nominations submitted by colleagues, clients, or employers.

How nominations work

The process is straightforward. Nominations go in at canadianmortgageawards.com/nominate, where a nominator provides the candidate's contact details and a short case for why they belong in consideration, within a 300-word limit.

Once all nominations are considered and research is complete, excellence awardees will be selected in each category and notified via email or phone.

All excellence awardees are then invited to complete a detailed submission, an opportunity to address the category criteria in more detail.

All submissions will remain confidential unless otherwise marked and will not be shared with any third parties other than the judges.

What distinguishes the CMA process from many peer recognition programmes is that the shortlist is not determined solely by who gets nominated. After nominations close, the CMA research team draws on its own reporting through Canadian Mortgage Professional magazine to identify high performers who were not put forward by name, so the shortlist reflects the full field rather than just those with an engaged network behind them.

Excellence awardees will be officially announced in September on the event website and promoted in CMP magazine and online channels.

Judging commences in October and November before winners are revealed at the gala.

A milestone year for the industry

Two categories that signal how the industry is changing at its edges are The REMIC Award for Finfluencer of the Year and Mortgage Tech Innovator of the Year. Both reflect how recognition at the CMAs has evolved alongside the industry itself over two decades, from a traditional broker-focused programme to one that now captures the full breadth of the Canadian mortgage ecosystem.

For those who have built their practice in the broker channel, CMP's analysis of how a Canadian Mortgage Awards win raises the bar for brokers and the broader spotlight on the industry reshaped by the historic renewal wave provide useful context for building a compelling submission.

Nominations are free and can be submitted at canadianmortgageawards.com/nominate before the August 14 deadline.
