Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has named Mitchell Heritage (pictured) as the new executive manager of Indigenous business products.

Heritage, a Kuku-Yalanji, Goorimpul, and Torres Strait Islander, was raised on Meanjin Country in Queensland.

Joining CBA’s Indigenous business banking team and the IGNITE community of over 120 business banking specialists, Heritage is expected to enhance the banking services offered to Indigenous business clients.

With over 15 years of experience, including a recent role as senior product owner in CBA’s home buying sector, he boasts a strong background in investment and retail banking.

Rebecca Warren, CBA’s executive general manager of business banking, is confident Heritage will play a key role in advancing CBA’s Indigenous business banking growth strategy and the commitments outlined in the bank’s reconciliation action plan.

“He joins a team of dedicated business banking specialists who are committed to building strong relationships with Indigenous businesses and communities to build the best products and services to meet our Indigenous business customers’ needs,” Warren said.

“We’re excited to expand the Indigenous business banking team to continuously improve CBA’s product offering and processes to optimise our overall experiences for Indigenous customers.

“I am really proud of our Indigenous business banking offering, including our Indigenous business line and concierge to streamline access to a range of financial solutions to assist Indigenous businesses to accelerate growth.

“In addition, our collaboration with Supply Nation to deliver our Indigenous Business Education Series allows us to give back to the Indigenous business sector.

“Mitchell’s experience in home buying enables Indigenous business banking to really amplify and expand our offering and support Indigenous businesses seeking home ownership opportunities. He has a deep passion for our Indigenous communities, businesses, and employees, and that is demonstrated by the leadership, energy and commitment he brings to work every day.”

From starting at CBA as a school-based trainee at age 14, Heritage said he has consistently aimed to drive positive outcomes for First Nations businesses and communities.

“Working at CBA has enabled me to build my skill set to a point where I can really make a difference. I am particularly keen to support home ownership opportunities for Indigenous businesses,” Heritage said.

“This role is the perfect opportunity for me to bring these things together and allows me to continue to support First Nations people. Indigenous business banking is an incredibly important space for CBA and our communities and I’m extremely excited to be a part of the work we are doing.”
