BDM in the Spotlight: Nicki Ghazi

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same questions – giving you regular insights into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.

Name: Nicki Ghazi

Company: Moula Money Pty. Ltd.

What did you do before entering the industry?

I studied a commerce degree majoring in finance as I love numbers and problem solving. I then decided to live in Europe for a year before starting my career in the commercial broking industry back home in Sydney.

How often do you see mortgage brokers in a week?

I try to book in at least 10 meetings per week. Catching up face to face is the most effective way to educate, collaborate and connect with brokers.

What do mortgage brokers want most from you?

Mortgage brokers want the ability to set realistic outcome expectations for their clients at the earliest moment possible. Beyond being responsive and readily accessible, I should be able to look at a transaction and provide an indication of how we can assist, subject to credit criteria being met, as well as how to present the transaction to assist with obtaining an outcome most seamlessly – our underwriters appreciate detail and transparency.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Despite being the backbone of the Australian economy, approximately three in four SMEs deem finance too hard to obtain, so my favourite part of the job is adding value and making a difference. By helping grow the repertoire of referral partners, they are much more broadly able to identify opportunities to assist underserved SMEs.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?

The best brokers know their clients well and clearly understand their clients’ short to medium term objectives in order tailor the right solution every time and maintain their clients for life.

What’s your ideal weekend?

Relaxing, eating well, visiting family and the occasional soiree. I’m excited to go go-karting on my next free weekend.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?

A feral goat trader. We approved it!

What’s your top time-saving tip and how much time does it save you?

Do not multi-task! Combating one task at a time helps me save at least one hour a day as opposed to the old way of interchanging between three tasks.

What’s your favourite meal?

My favourite meal is a Japanese omakase experience. Omakase means the chef gets to choose what is served and there’s always a distinct variety of dishes so it’s always fun!
