TAP, Hive join forces on KiwiSaver advice

New partnership links CRM efficiency with KiwiSaver servicing for multi-service advice firms

TAP, Hive join forces on KiwiSaver advice

The Adviser Platform (TAP) and KiwiSaver specialist Hive have announced a new partnership aimed at helping advice businesses — including mortgage and risk firms — offer a broader range of services under one roof.

The move comes off the back of the FMA's 2026 Access to Financial Advice Review, which found that only 28% of New Zealanders had accessed financial advice in the past 12 months. Notably, mortgage broking was already one of the most common entry points into advice, second only to KiwiSaver.

TAP managing director Ryan Edwards (pictured left) said the opportunity extends beyond any single business.

"The advice gap is a significant opportunity for our industry. Hive shares our belief in elevating the role of the adviser and the difference great advice can make," Edwards said.

He added that the combined offering should let advisers "support more of their clients' financial needs and make a greater difference in their financial lives."

Less admin, more capacity

On the operational side, TAP's platform is designed to pass client data directly into Hive's systems, cutting down on duplicate entry and reducing the back-and-forth that often comes with running risk, mortgage, and KiwiSaver advice through separate portals. Advice documentation and governance checks are generated in real time as part of that workflow.

For advisers already stretched by compliance obligations and administrative workload, the partnership aims to add a KiwiSaver capability without adding a new administrative burden.

Edwards said the integration "reduces friction, simplifies the advice workflow, and creates more adviser capacity to focus on what you do best — delivering great advice."

Hive is now live for TAP's customer base, which currently includes more than 550 advisers nationwide, spanning risk, mortgage, and KiwiSaver advice businesses. That customer base sits within a sector that's growing quickly — FMA figures show adviser numbers rose 8.4% in the past year, with residential property advice remaining the most popular specialisation for newcomers to the profession.

Keeping the adviser in the loop

Rather than positioning KiwiSaver as a separate referral or standalone product sale, Hive is designed to sit inside an adviser's existing client relationship, with the adviser's own brand remaining visible throughout. Clients get access to four specialist fund managers — Aurora Capital, Harbour Asset Management, Pie Funds, and Munro Partners — with the flexibility to mix funds across managers depending on individual needs.

Hive chief executive Sharon Mackay (pictured right) said the model was built around a core principle.

"Hive was built around a simple conviction: clients do better with an adviser at the centre. We want advisers to play a bigger role throughout their clients' financial journey, with their advice and brand present at the moments that matter," Mackay said.
