Revolut taps ex-Bendigo executive as first New Zealand CEO

Global fintech Revolut has named Ryan Brosnahan as its first New Zealand chief executive.

The appointment comes as the company works towards becoming a fully licensed bank. Revolut reports more than 80 million retail customers and over 850,000 business customers worldwide.

Brosnahan will run the local team and set strategy for the business. Georgia Grange, who led Revolut's New Zealand operations from launch, has been promoted to chief operating officer (COO).

Brosnahan's experience spans New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the US, and Asia. His most recent role was chief transformation officer at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. There he oversaw technology, digital, data, cards, and payments, and led the lender's digital transformation programme.

He previously spent almost 15 years with ANZ, where his roles included general manager services in New Zealand and head of group payments management. He also holds governance and advisory roles at EROAD and Banzpay.

"The opportunity to bring together technology, innovation and financial services to give Kiwis more choice and control is one I find incredibly compelling," Brosnahan said.

As COO, Grange will be responsible for product, operations, technology, data, and customer experience. Her career includes roles at Kiwibank, Lendi, and the Ministry of Social Development.

"In the COO role, I'm focused on ensuring that as we scale, our products remain seamless, secure, and tailored to the needs of the local market," she said.

Banking licence bid and expansion in Aotearoa

Revolut applied to the Reserve Bank (RBNZ) for bank registration in December 2024, and the application has yet to be approved. If registration is granted, Revolut has signalled it will introduce interest-bearing savings and a wider range of credit products, according to its December 2024 registered bank application announcement.

Revolut plans to spend almost $120 million in New Zealand and add 90 new roles by the end of 2027. The plan follows the opening of its Wellington headquarters earlier this year.

Since entering the New Zealand market in July 2023, the digital-first fintech has added RevPoints and Ultra. It also launched its New Zealand business banking platform, Revolut Business, for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in 2026. The platform brings accounts, multi-currency payments, and spending tools into one place.
