Home ownership workshops launches in Maraenui

Napier City Council is supporting a programme to help Maraenui residents interested in buying a home.

Interested residents are being urged to register and participate in an upcoming home ownership programme.

Established by advisory firms BudgetFirst and Mortgage Partners, the Money Mates programme offes workshops covering Kiwisaver, Home Start Grants, clearing debt, loans, repayments and other associated issues. It launches in partnership with Napier City Council and local company Angel Promotions.

According to Therese O’Brien from Angel Promotions, the programme supports whanau who dream of owning their own home, especially those who may not know where to start.

“Even if people feel now is not the right time for them to be thinking about buying a house, we encourage them to come along and find out more,” O’Brien said. “There will be more housing opportunities to come in Maraenui.”

Meanwhile, Napier City Council manager community strategies Natasha Mackie noted the programme aligns with Te Pihinga (formerly known as Activate Maraenui) and the council’s support for the Maraenui community, particularly with the recent announcement there is a Kiwibuild development planned for Geddis Ave in the suburb.

“Council has been working with people in this community for a number of years, and supporting whanau in this way ties in neatly with the goals we and other stakeholders in Te Pihinga have, to grow the economic and social prosperity within Maraenui,” Mackie added.

The Money Mates programme will run over four Tuesdays, beginning June 25 at EIT’s Maraenui campus, at the Maraenui Shopping Centre.
