Brad Olsen steps back to principal economist as Kiernan takes the reins
Brad Olsen (pictured left) has stepped down as chief executive of Infometrics after three and a half years in the role, returning full-time to his principal economist position as Gareth Kiernan (pictured right) takes over as acting managing director alongside his existing role as chief forecaster.
Olsen returns to economist role
Olsen, who is nearly 30, noted his 3.5 years as CE represented close to a third of his career to date — a period during which he also continued serving as principal economist, spending roughly half the year away from home and the office. On LinkedIn, he described the move as a return to "what I do best – getting out and about in the economy."
In Infometrics' own announcement, Olsen said he wants "to better focus my time on ensuring as many people as possible – Infometrics clients, decision makers, and the public at large – are better informed and that economics is put simply."
Infometrics board chair Chris Whelan credited Olsen's tenure, saying "Brad has brought great energy and drive to Infometrics, alongside some excellent initiatives."
Kiernan brings long institutional history to the role
Kiernan is no stranger to leadership at Infometrics, having previously served as managing director in 2006 before moving into an operations director role in 2014. He joined the consultancy in 1999, giving him more than two decades of institutional knowledge heading into the acting role.
"As we have for more than 40 years, the Infometrics team will continue to provide valuable data, analysis, and insights across the New Zealand economy, and be an important contributor to the economic discussion in this country," Kiernan said.
