Far out Friday: No rest for British workers on Christmas Eve

Come Christmas eve, over half of employees will still be working to save some extra money

More than half of British workers will have to wait until Christmas day to relax and enjoy the festivities as some 63 per cent of employees will be working on Christmas Eve, according to an article on The Independent.

A study of over a 1,000 UK employees by Cotton Traders showed over 30 per cent will be in the office on Christmas Day and 40 per cent of those surveyed do not have a choice about working over the festive period.

About 41 per cent are expecting double pay while working on a holiday.

But the generous Christmas spirit still abounds as early 30 per cent of those surveyed said they will stay in the office to allow others to take some time out.

South West of England is the area where most people are likely to be kept working whereas those in Northern England will probably be at home and a whopping 70 per cent of Londoners are also likely to check in at work.

Among those staying away from the office, 60 per cent of employees say they check their emails over Christmas with 20 per cent admitting that they will check every day.
