Leading hotel management firm chooses Calgary for its Canadian HQ

Texas-based Aimbridge Hospitality, widely considered as North America’s largest hotel management company, will be establishing its Canadian headquarters in Calgary.

Aimbridge has announced the completion of its acquisition of the Calgary-based Bellstar Hotels & Resorts. This will add 1,200 owners at Western Canadian condo resorts to the three properties elsewhere in Canada that Aimbridge is already managing – namely, the Westin in Whistler, Sheraton Four Points in Surrey, and Courtyard by Marriott in Prince George.

“The acquisition of this robust company and its thriving properties is a huge addition to our international portfolio,” Aimbridge CEO Dave Johnson told the Calgary Herald. “We look forward to ongoing success in the Canadian market.”

Aimbridge currently owns/manages more than 150,000 rooms across roughly 1,400 high-end and independent hotels in the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Recently, Calgary’s commercial market has become a hotspot for dynamic industries hungry for office space.

“We’re beginning to see more demand emanating from tech, advertising, media and information,” Allied Property REIT chief executive officer Michael Emory told BNN Bloomberg earlier this month.

“We’re seeing early signs of that and if it continues to evolve, I think it will enable Calgary to diversity its economy in a meaningful way,” Emory added. “The city can’t continue to rely exclusively on energy sector to fuel its growth.”
