The increasing number of vacant homes in Vancouver is to be tackled by a new initiative announced over the weekend by the City of Vancouver’s chief housing officer. Mukhtar Latif said that a new website will be created allowing residents to report empty properties in their neighbourhood “in a coherent fashion.” The reports will then be matched with data from BC Hydro. Vancouver’s vacancy rate is a major problem for affordability in the city and this initiative could go some way to tackling the issue.
