Quebecers place immense trust in brokers’ experience, knowledge

More than eight out of 10 of those who intend to buy or sell a residence in Quebec indicated a high level of trust in brokers, according to research by Léger.

The recent survey, which was released by the Quebec Professional Association of Real Estate Brokers, found that 82% of Quebecers will be using the services offered by broker. This share was considerably larger than the proportion observed in 2013, at 60%.

Furthermore, 87% said that the brokers they worked with had a deep knowledge of the legalities and policies surrounding a property sale or purchase (compared to 83% in 2013). Said familiarity is especially important in a regulatory regime characterized by strictness and rapid-fire introductions of new laws.

This reliance has become particularly apparent with the perceived value of brokers’ services: Quebecers admitted that their confidence in entering any transaction without the input of a broker fell by almost 7% (for purchases) and 10% (for sales).

“[Brokers’] understanding of the market and their ability to manage all the paperwork that needs to be filled in contributes to their level of expertise,” Léger vice president of communications and public affairs Sylvain Gauthier said.

Gauthier added that “brokers are surrounded by a team of professionals that they can refer to at any time, and they understand the administrative and legal details relating to the sale or purchase of a property.”
