Mortgage industry mourns passing of icon

The mortgage industry is mourning the loss of Michael Ellenzweig, a foundational member of Mortgage Professionals Canada (formerly CIMBL/CAAMP) whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the sector.

Ellenzweig's career in the mortgage industry spanned several decades, during which he played a critical role in shaping the landscape of mortgage brokerage in Canada. One of his most notable achievements was his long-standing association with MPC, where he served in various capacities, including vice president of member services.

MPC said that throughout his tenure, Ellenzweig was instrumental in advocating for the interests of mortgage brokers, often leading initiatives that promoted their value in the real estate market. His efforts were not only confined to advocacy—he was also a mentor to many, sharing his knowledge and expertise to guide the next generation of mortgage professionals.

Ellenzweig's contributions were recognized through numerous awards, including induction into the CAAMP Mortgage Hall of Fame and the creation of the CAAMP Michael Ellenzweig Outstanding Service Award in his honor.

“Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a beloved friend, colleague, and mentor to many. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him,” MPC wrote on LinkedIn.
