The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) has welcomed the introduction of the Home Accessibility Tax Credit and the Public Transit Fund as measures that it expects will help support affordability and choice in housing for Canadians. The measures will help seniors and disabled homeowners to renovate their properties and the association is pleased that receipts will be required as it should reduce fraud and bad workmanship by unscrupulous workers. The Public Transit Fund should help reduce taxes on new homes, another move welcomed by the association. CHBA president Jane Morgan commented: “Owning a home remains the central aspiration of young people as they achieve financial independence; and a home still serves as the core financial asset of most Canadian families today.”
