Nominations are now open for the 2024 Canadian Mortgage Awards

The annual Canadian Mortgage Awards is returning for an 18th year in 2024, with nominations now open for the prestigious event honouring the best and brightest across Canada’s mortgage industry.

The eagerly anticipated ceremony will take place next May 2 at Toronto’s Congress Centre, once again honouring the outstanding achievements of the leading brokers, brokerages, lenders, business development managers, service providers, and underwriters throughout the industry over the prior 12 months.

Always a night of great celebration, the event offers mortgage professionals the opportunity to come together as an industry and toast the accomplishments of its top performers and brightest stars.

Nominations can be submitted on the official event website between today and January 19, with Excellence Awardees to be revealed in February and winners announced at the awards show in May.

What are the categories for next year?

For brokers, a wide range of categories includes the prestigious Broker of the Year (Regional) awards, with prizes for mortgage professionals based in British Columbia, Alberta, the Prairies, Ontario, Atlantic Canada and Quebec. Also featured is the overall Canadian Broker of the Year award and accolades for brokers in the private and alternative spaces.

Mortgage brokerage awards include the Brokerage of the Year prizes, divided into those with 25 employees or more and fewer than 25 employees, in addition to the National Broker Network of the Year award, Award for Digital Innovation in a Brokerage, and New Brokerage of the Year.

New for 2024 is the National Brokerage of the Year award, recognizing the most outstanding cross-Canada brokerage of the past 12 to 18 months.

In the Industry Awards section, mortgage professionals and firms will compete for the chance to win Industry Service Provider of the Year, Employer of Choice, Women of Distinction, Excellence in Philanthropy & Community Service, and Lifetime Achievement awards.

On the lender side, BDMs will vie for a variety of awards for alternative lending, private lending and prime, with lender underwriter awards also featuring those categories.

An unforgettable event for winners and attendees alike

HomeEquity Bank’s Nicole Roe, who won the 2023 Lender Underwriter of the Year Award (Alternative Lending), told Canadian Mortgage Professional that this year’s ceremony had been one that would live long in the memory.

She described the experience of winning the much-coveted award as a “big honour” and the ceremony itself a “fantastic night” that brought the mortgage industry together for an unforgettable occasion.

It had also served as a prime opportunity for networking and forging and furthering relationships within the industry, Roe added, with well over 600 mortgage professionals from across the country converging on Toronto for the April event.

“Everybody’s working together, so it was nice to actually see partners in person. Meeting the other nominees and getting to know them was a good experience, as well as the live connections that were made that night,” she said. “It’s nice to be in person and have those conversations. It was a really good experience.”

How to submit nominations for the CMAs

The nomination process is a straightforward one. Simply proceed to the Nominate page of the CMAs website and provide the nominee’s contact details and a brief reason for the nomination within a 300-word limit.

The Canadian Mortgage Awards research team will use information from Canadian Mortgage Professional magazine to support and supplement nominations, ensuring that no-one deserving of recognition is missed, with Excellence Awardees – the final nominees in each category – to be determined from both pools of information.

Excellence Awardees will be selected in each category, excluding Lifetime Achievement, and notified by email or phone with each of the finalists then invited to complete a detailed submission addressing the category criteria in more detail.

Those submissions will remain confidential unless otherwise marked, and will not be shared with third parties other than the judges.

Submissions from excellence awardees are forwarded to the independent judging panel, made up of mortgage and finance industry leaders and senior representatives, with impartial, balanced, incisive and fair voting commencing between March and April 2024.

Be sure to get your nominations in for what’s sure to be another memorable night in Toronto on May 2 – and the best of luck to all nominees for the 2024 Awards.
