HomeEquity Bank names new SVP as broker channel ambitions grow

HomeEquity Bank has named Pierre-Emmanuel Martin as Senior Vice President (SVP), Broker Channel, as Canada's reverse mortgage lender moves to deepen its national broker distribution network amid accelerating demand from homeowners 55 and older.

Martin joins with a career spanning mortgage lending, broker relations, credit risk, underwriting, and sales leadership, a background that HomeEquity Bank said positions him to build high-performing teams and drive sustainable growth through its broker partnerships.

Most recently, he served as Vice President, Residential Mortgage Lending at Home Trust Company in Toronto, a role he held from January 2021 following three years as Vice President, Residential Underwriting at the same institution. His combined tenure at Home Trust spanned more than eight years.

Prior to Home Trust, Martin served as Senior Director, Credit Risk at MCAP and as Vice President, Credit Operations at Radius Financial, where he led credit functions for three years before moving to MCAP.

Earlier in his career, he held the role of Director, Credit Operations at Paradigm Quest, where colleagues have endorsed his skills in credit risk and mortgage underwriting. He also spent nearly two years as Team Lead, Origination at Macquarie Group in the Greater Toronto Area.

His career began as an assistant credit analyst at Euler Hermes and as a financial adviser at BNP Paribas in the Greater Paris Metropolitan Region.

The appointment arrives as the mortgage broker channel continues to expand its reach. The share of Canadians who obtained their mortgage through a broker climbed to 38% in 2026, up six percentage points from the previous year.

Recent first-time buyers drove the sharpest gains, according to consumer research commissioned by Mortgage Professionals Canada (MPC) and conducted by Bond Brand Loyalty between February 5 and 25.

A lender built around the 55-plus market

HomeEquity Bank is Canada's only Schedule I bank dedicated exclusively to reverse mortgages for homeowners aged 55 and over. Founded in 1986 and majority-owned by Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan since July 2022, the bank offers the Canadian Home Income Plan (CHIP) Reverse Mortgage alongside Income Advantage, CHIPMax, and CHIP Open, each structured to allow eligible borrowers to access home equity as tax-free cash without mandatory monthly repayments.

The bank reported over $1 billion in reverse mortgage originations for the fourth consecutive year, and its total reverse mortgage portfolio under management stood at over $8.8 billion as of December 2024.

As growing broker interest in reverse mortgages intensifies across Canada, the bank has structured its broker support model around approximately 40 dedicated business development managers, a team designed to position HomeEquity Bank as a strategic partner rather than simply a product provider.
