Another day in paradise
Phi Phi Island Village is a unique resort nestled among palm trees on the shores of the Andaman Sea. When you see it for the first time you will undoubtedly feel, as I did, that there is something magical about this place.
Upon arrival, luggage is whisked away and visitors are greeted with a 'welcome cocktail' and briefed on the resort's many offerings.
The resort itself has 112 rooms, ranging from the Superior Bungalow, which comfortably fits two people and has all the trimmings you would expect from a 4.5-star resort, to the brand new Hillside Villas, which come complete with their own infinity edge pool, breathtaking views, and a golf buggy to travel to and from the resort centre. However, if you are after something in between or a little more family friendly, the Beachfront Junior Suites boast their own verandahs and front yards facing the beach.
Your tastebuds are also well catered for, with the resort's three main restaurants serving traditional Thai food and Western favourites. There are also international cuisine theme nights on offer. Be sure to request a song from the band that serenades diners each evening and enjoy the staff members' impeccable service. And no night is complete without a nightcap at the Coconut Pub and a spot of dancing to the house band.
For daytime activities, the main pool area is delightful. However, if you need to take time out from sunbaking, the onsite activities centre also offers a range of excursions, including long-tail boat trips with your own driver, and daily tours to 'James Bond Island' and Phi Phi Lei, the island made famous by the film The Beach.
Private tours are also an option for those who wish to navigate their own course. Speedboat hire is your best bet, with a personal driver sharing the local secrets and the best spots to go snorkelling or swimming away from the crowds. The hotel will also provide packed lunches and snorkel gear.
For those not so keen on water sports, the Wana Spa will revive your senses and pamper you with their signature treatments.
Or for those who want to experience authentic Thai culture in this paradise setting, the walking track through the rear of the resort will show off the native wildlife.
