NAB offers relief to customers impacted by cyclone

National Australia Bank has announced that it will offer $1,000 grants and additional financial relief to eligible customers impacted by Tropical Cyclone Kirrily in North Queensland, aiming to assist them in the immediate aftermath.

These grants are specifically designed to aid NAB customers who have suffered significant damage to their homes, farms, or businesses, helping them cover emergency expenses, the bank said in a news release.

NAB offered similar grants last month to those affected by Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Chris Francis, NAB executive retail for Queensland, emphasised the range of support measures in place to assist impacted NAB customers, including grants, loan payment deferrals, and other relief measures.

“To the Townsville and Burdekin Shire families, communities and businesses who have suffered significant damage to their homes, farms and premises: we are here to help,” Francis said. “This will be a testing time for our communities and we’re standing by them, providing immediate assistance and making $1,000 grants available to help those most affected. NAB customers impacted in Townsville City Council and the Burdekin Shire are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible.”

In addition to the $1,000 grants, NAB is offering further support to directly impacted customers. This includes options such as loan deferral or reduced repayment arrangements for home, personal, and some business loans, as well as hardship support for those struggling to make minimum monthly payments on personal loans, home loans, or credit cards.

The bank is also waiving and/or refunding fees and charges, including merchant terminal fees and early access fees to term deposits. Furthermore, NAB employees who have been evacuated from their residences or cut off from support services can access funds to assist with accessing temporary accommodation and everyday essentials.

Impacted customers seeking further assistance are encouraged to visit the Natural Disaster Relief and Support section on nab.com.au. Alternatively, over-the-phone assistance is available by calling 1300 308 132 for individuals and 1300 769 650 for businesses.

All enquiries will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the NAB Assist team to determine eligibility, with Disaster Relief Grants remaining open until Feb. 13 for severely impacted, eligible NAB customers.

The grants are not available for minor damage to homes or for damage to personal items and appliances, sheds, garages, gardens, or loss or damage to investment properties or holiday homes. Additionally, NAB has a longstanding policy to provide employees who are emergency service volunteers with as much paid crisis leave as they require during emergencies.
