New tool spots document fraud, protects client privacy
Aggregator outsource Financial has rolled out Fraud Finder, a new detection tool designed to help brokers identify document manipulation and strengthen verification checks during the lending process.
The launch comes as the sector grapples with rising levels of mortgage fraud.
Built to flag inconsistencies, not make the call
Fraud Finder analyses financial documents and statements for anomalies, alterations, and other fraud indicators, giving brokers an extra checkpoint before applications progress further through assessment.
outsource Financial chief executive Tanya Sale (pictured) said the tool responds directly to a shift she's observing across the industry.
"As we are all currently seeing, on an industry-wide level, there is growing sophistication on fraudulent activity, which is presenting new challenges for both brokers and lenders alike," Sale said.
The concern isn't limited to industry commentary — ASIC has issued a formal warning making the same point, with commissioner Simone Constant telling financial services licensees that AI-driven fraud "is not a distant or hypothetical risk. It is here now, evolving quickly and requires the attention of boards and executives."
A representative from Fraud Finder, Steven, said the tool is designed to surface evidence rather than issue a verdict.
"Fraud Finder was built to give brokers X-ray vision for financial documents," Steven said.
He explained that a document's electronic file can carry a hidden history of edits or prior details that aren't visible on the page itself, and that the platform's role is limited to exposing that evidence.
"We are not telling a broker whether a document is fraudulent. Our system's task is to surface the available evidence within an electronic file so the broker can make a better-informed decision," Steven said.
Client documents stay on the broker's device
A key design decision behind Fraud Finder was ensuring client documents never leave the broker's own system.
Steven said this was deliberate from the outset.
"We made a deliberate decision from day one that Fraud Finder would never need to take possession of a broker's client documents," he said. "The document stays on the broker's device. We do not receive it, we do not store it and we cannot see it."
Steven said this approach avoids creating a separate repository of sensitive client information that could become a target for a data breach or cyberattack.
Part of a broader push on broker support
Sale said the launch reflects a wider commitment to giving brokers practical, low-friction tools that support stronger compliance without adding complexity to their workflow.
"We know our brokers are looking for practical solutions that can support stronger compliance and verification processes without adding unnecessary complexity," she said, adding that the goal is to help brokers "identify potential concerns earlier in the process" for the benefit of brokers, lenders, and clients alike.
The rollout forms part of outsource Financial's broader investment in technology, education, and support designed to help brokers navigate an increasingly complex lending environment.
