A major originator has said it is building a broker network in the central U.S., and that it is doing so from the ground up.

Samuel Bjelac,  who manages the eastern region’s wholesale lending for Carrington Mortgage Services, has told the Florida Association of Mortgage Professionals conference that the company is ramping up ots operations in the Midwest, with two new operations centers in the region.

Carrington also recently hired Matt Evans to head up wholesale lending in the central region. Bjielac said Evans will be on the ground visiting brokers in coming months in an effort to direct more business to Carrington.

Bjielac said the only requirement for brokers was the ability to produce $2m or more per month. As for brokers, sales coach Bill Sparkman told the conference they should look to do business with lenders who have speed, accessibility, knowledge, visibility and growth potential.

Aside from price, product and service, lenders should also be able to offer a competitive value advantage for brokers, Sparkman said. This could mean that they actively assist in the broker’s growth potential by helping their business succeed.
