There have been lots of changes for US cities in the past decade – some good and some bad – but which cities have changed the most?

A study by MagnifyMoney looked at the 50 largest US metros and analyzed home prices, crime rates, building permits, commute times and other elements to determine the changes seen over the last 10 years.

Ranking the cities with a ‘change score’ of 0-100, the analysis concluded that Austin, TX has experienced the most change including a 40% growth in jobs since 2006, the fastest in the US; and a 50% rise in house prices, leading the 50 largest metros.

Texas takes the top three spots on the list with Dallas-Fort Worth in second place with top 10 ranking in five of the key metrics used for the study; and Houston in third place with a 38% rise in home values and the third highest level of building permit expansion.

At the other end of the list is Birmingham, AL with lags in job growth and a 2% decline in home prices. Milwaukee and New Orleans were also in the bottom three for change.
