CoreLogic: 9.1 million Californian homes at risk from wildfires
Wildfires in California are currently putting more than 172,000 homes at risk according to an analysis by CoreLogic which says that 9.1 million statewide are at some level of wildfire risk.

The fires have so far killed at least 17 people and damaged thousands of homes in the famous wine region of California. The fires have been called “unprecedented” by the Cal Fire agency.

Homes with a combined reconstruction cost of more than $65 billion in the Napa and Santa Rosa metros could be affected by currently active fires but statewide the total value of homes at risk is $3.1 trillion.

The Napa and Santa Rosa fires put 6% of homes at significant risk of damage with a combined $5 billion of reconstruction costs. While the other 94% of homes in the region are at low or moderate risk, the report highlights the potential for fires spreading from adjacent properties to those properties that are not deemed at significant risk.

The reconstruction cost values represent estimates to rebuild the home, taking into account geography, labor and materials, and are based on 100-percent, or total, destruction.
