Darlington appoints non-executive directors

Davies was appointed to the building society’s group board on 1 November 2011. She is currently a director with risk and regulatory advisory practice Joseph & Hepple-Wilson.

Thain was appointed to the group’s board on 1 October 2011. She is currently the group chief executive of Middlesbrough-based Fabrick Housing Group, a role which she will retain.

She was awarded an OBE for services to social housing in 2004.

Davies said: “I have worked with and known the building society sector for many years and I am delighted to join the board of Darlington and support it through the current economic challenges faced by the industry.”

Thain said: “Mutuals like Darlington play a vital role in our local economies and I look forward to using my skills and experience to contribute to its continuing success in the coming period.”

Chris Fleetwood, chairman of Darlington building society, said: “The society is very fortunate to have attracted two such high profile non-executive board members such as Kate Davies and Alison Thain.”

“Both Kate and Alison bring with them relevant experience at a very high level in a number of fields which will be of great benefit to the society as it moves forward.

“I look forward to working closely with them both in what is likely to be for some time, a challenging environment for financial services firms.”
