Man refuses to buy house unless he gets seller’s cat

by MPA31 Oct 2014
An Australian couple found themselves in an awkward and tough predicament when a man bidding on their home refused to close on the deal unless he could also have their cat.

According to Gawker, the potential home buyer’s child “fell in love” with Tiffany the cat while doing a walkthrough of the house, and the buyer would not sign the contract unless he also got the cat for his child. So, the couple agreed to include their cat Tiffany in the sale for an extra $140,000.

The Australian couple told reporters that Tiffany is now “the most expensive cat in Australia,” according to Gawker.  The couple also said they are considering getting a new cat once they move. They also have two dogs, two rabbits and fish, but did not tell reporters how much money they would accept for those pets.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve encountered during the contract process?

Not wanting to sound like a nut case but it would take a sum of money such as that to even get me to consider parting with one of my pets. If they want my cat, they better get out the check book.
