CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU
Since his appointment as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Richard Cordray has faced a constant barrage of criticism from industry leaders who object to his more or less unilateral power over the agency. Currently, Cordray is facing a court challenge from PHH Mortgage, which is appealing a massive fine he levied against the company for engaging in kickbacks. The matter is set to come before the US District Court in April, and industry experts say a loss for the CFPB could go a long way toward stripping Cordray’s powers.
