You've heard the proverb before: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." It's easy to make promises; it's easy to talk about all you're going to do. That's how people get into positions of power--not by talking about what they've done but by waxing poetic about what they plan to do. But, once you're in those positions--as many a politician can certainly attest--it's a lot harder to fulfill those promises and do what you said you were going to do.
Last week on the Lykken on Lending radio show, I spent a good deal of time giving recognition to many of the industry news publications that provide quality information for lenders in today's marketplace. The folks behind these publications are all about results. They do what they say they're going to do. They don't just talk about providing industry insights; they deliver those insights on a consistent basis.
I write a lot about leadership in the mortgage industry. As a consultant, I often preach that success begins with great leadership. But true leadership is not merely about giving speeches and motivating employees. True leadership is about leading by example. It's about practicing what you preaching and showing your people the way be traveling it yourself. True leadership is all about results--that's what the road to success is paved with.
