NBA player’s dad pleads guilty to mortgage fraud

The TImberwolves player's father could face 30 years in prison.

The father of an NBA player has pleaded guilty and agreed to pay restitution in a mortgage fraud case.

Ronald Holmes, father of Minnesota Timberwolves player Shabazz Muhammed, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit mail, wire and bank fraud, according to an ESPN report.

According to ESPN, Holmes admitted to providing false information to lenders. He has agreed to pay almost $1.7 million in restitution.

Prosecutors agreed to drop two counts of bank fraud and ask for sentencing leniency for Holmes, who has agreed to cooperate in an ongoing investigation – although he could face up to 30 years in prison, according to ESPN.

Muhammed, a rookie with the Timberwolves, played at UCLA before joining the NBA.
