Two federal agencies have agreed to form a partnership to develop and maintain a National Mortgage Database, the first of its kind in the history of government oversight of mortgage lending operations.

This is the first step is creating a Federal Government version of MERS. There is no need for this data base since the Banks are supposed to be regulated now and are supposed to be audited. We know they are not, but never allow the government to expand its role. It never works out.
